However, it contraindicates any application to the entire face — irritation and dehydration are guaranteed with extended use. Bakuchiol (Psoralea corylifolia extract) is positioned by the brand for its anti-blemish properties. Its classification as a plant retinoid is a marketing oversimplification: studies comparing bakuchiol to retinoids (retinol, retinal) mainly focus on anti-aging actions, and at concentrations not specified here. For an SOS blemish gel, its soothing, astringent, and antioxidant profile is particularly relevant. Tea Tree essential oil (Melaleuca Alternifolia, at the end of the INCI = low dose) provides mild antiseptic properties documented for mild to moderate blemishes. At the probable dose in this gel, it contributes to the corrective effect without the irritation risks of a concentrated Tea Tree formula. The clinical data is the stronger of the two Jowaé products: -37% reduction in blemish score (blackheads, microcysts, papules) measured by clinical scoring on 22 volunteers at 28 days.
