VM Serum is formulated with Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (SAP), an esterified form of Vitamin C. Unlike ascorbic acid (L-AA), which is directly active but unstable (VA Serum), SAP is a pro-active ingredient: it is converted into ascorbic acid within keratinocytes by cutaneous phosphatases. Its oxidative stability is significantly superior to that of L-AA, making it an excellent choice for neutral-pH aqueous formulations. The antioxidant, depigmenting, and collagen synthesis-supporting effects are real, though slightly less intense than with pure L-AA at equivalent concentrations—an acceptable trade-off for sensitive skin or skin reactive to low pH levels. MSM (Dimethyl Sulfone) provides organic sulfur: its primary topical role is as a humectant, and it facilitates the skin penetration of other active ingredients by improving the permeability of the stratum corneum, with an associated mild anti-inflammatory effect. Ferulic acid is a classic antioxidant synergist, documented to amplify the activity of Vitamin C and Vitamin E (Tocopheryl Acetate, present in the formula)—the combination of VitC + VitE + ferulic acid is one of the most well-validated antioxidant trios in cosmetology. Niacinamide complements this action by blocking melanosome transfer. Hydrogenated lecithin improves lipid incorporation. This formula is fragrance-free and non-photosensitizing: it can be used morning and evening without any specific adjustments. Since SAP is not a hydroquinone precursor (unlike arbutin), the formula is compatible with pregnancy and breastfeeding, subject to individual tolerance.
