Mustela — Liniment

Liniment is one of the rare cosmetic preparations to have remained virtually unchanged over the centuries. Its basic active principle is partial saponification: calcium hydroxide (lime) reacts with the fatty acids in olive oil to form a naturally stable oil-in-water emulsion, without synthetic surfactants. This lipid film creates a physical barrier against diaper moisture and repeated mechanical friction—two primary factors in diaper rash. The INCI list for this Mustela Liniment is remarkably short (10 ingredients), which is reassuring for infants with sensitive skin. No fragrance, no dyes, no sulfates, no PEGs. Carrot extract (Daucus carota sativa root extract) provides natural carotenoids. Corn oil (Zea mays oil) contributes to its richness in essential fatty acids. Tocopherol (vitamin E) is the formula's natural antioxidant, ensuring its stability. Caprylyl glycol acts as a co-preservative. The product is hypoallergenic and high-tolerance according to the brand. For infants with very dry or reactive skin or severe diaper rash, liniment remains a primary skincare base, to be combined if necessary with a specific barrier cream upon medical advice.
