Sapiens Hair Styling Powder has the shortest INCI list in the men's styling segment, with only six ingredients. This is an objective selection criterion. Silica Silylate is a fumed silica with a hydrophobic surface (silylated treatment). Its mechanism of action in styling powders is well-documented: absorption of surface sebum, increased inter-fiber friction for volume, and immediate matte effect. It is standard in high-end professional "powder" products, but rarely formulated in such a short list. VP/VA Copolymer (vinylpyrrolidone/vinyl acetate copolymer) is a film-forming polymer for flexible hold, one of the best documented in professional hair styling. It is not of natural origin — the brand's "84.2% natural" claim should be qualified — but its skin tolerance is excellent. Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein is the most heavily regulated active ingredient in this formula. In cosmetics, hydrolyzed wheat proteins have been identified by ANSES (2012 opinion, 2020 follow-up) as potentially sensitizing via the skin, capable of inducing cross-reactive food allergies to wheat in predisposed individuals. Here, the product is leave-on (dry powder on the scalp), which prolongs contact time. The contraindication for people with a wheat allergy or celiac disease is formal and must be clearly stated on the product sheet. A small percentage of glycerin and sodium benzoate (preservative) complete the formula. The total absence of fragrance is a real and documentable argument, confirmed by the INCI list.
