Effaclar A.Z. is the most interesting product in the Effaclar range from a dermatological perspective for the 30-45 age group. Azelaic Acid (AA) is a diacid naturally present in some cereals, with documented properties across several mechanisms simultaneously: keratolytic (follicle unclogging), melanogenesis regulation (attenuation of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation), slight action on microbial strains associated with imperfections (without using the term "antibacterial" which is reserved for the medical field), and an effect on skin barrier quality. At 10%, the concentration is just below the threshold for pharmaceutical forms (15-20% in Skinoren/Finacea prescriptions) but biologically active. The combination with 1.2% Salicylic Acid (BHA that penetrates the follicle) and Hyaluronic Acid (compensation for dehydration related to acids) is consistent and well-designed. Clinical data are strong for a cosmetic: -51% imperfections at 28 days on 81 subjects (clinical study, clinical measurement) + 98% firming at 56 days on 42 subjects (clinical study). The 72% mark self-assessment at 1 week is a subjective feeling—useful for advice but should be presented as such. Point of caution: AA can cause tingling and slight erythema at the start of treatment—this is predictable and reversible, not pathological.
