Fer³ Complex is one of the best-formulated iron supplements on the market. The three active ingredients work at complementary levels of intestinal iron absorption. TRAACS® quality Ferrochel™ bisglycinate is ferrous iron (Fe²⁺) doubly chelated with glycine. Chelation protects iron from anti-nutritional dietary factors (phytates, tannins) that trap inorganic iron as insoluble complexes, and improves its bioavailability—about three times that of iron sulfate according to published data on bisglycinate. The glycine-iron bond reduces digestive irritation, a classic problem with inorganic iron supplements. 95% pure French lactoferrin is a whey glycoprotein that binds to dietary ferric iron (Fe³⁺) in the intestinal lumen, keeps it in solution (prevents its precipitation), and facilitates its transfer to lactoferrin receptors on enterocytes. It acts independently of bisglycinate, increasing the absorption of dietary iron already present in food. Quali-C® (DSM) vitamin C reduces Fe³⁺ to Fe²⁺ in the intestine, facilitating its absorption via ferrous iron transporters. This action benefits from an authorized EU health claim: "Vitamin C increases iron absorption." At 180 mg per 2 capsules (225% of NRVs), the dose is effective without being excessive. DRcaps® (Capsugel) is a delayed-release vegetarian capsule that disintegrates in the small intestine rather than the stomach. For iron, this offers two advantages: optimized absorption at the duodenal level (the main site of non-heme iron absorption) and a reduction in gastric side effects classically associated with iron supplements. Main precautions: milk allergy (bovine lactoferrin – absolute contraindication), hemochromatosis or hemosiderosis (iron overload – absolute contraindication). Drug interactions: fluoroquinolones, tetracyclines, bisphosphonates, levothyroxine, antacids – observe a delay of 2 to 4 hours. Coffee, tea, dairy products, and calcium taken at the same time as the supplement reduce absorption – take at a separate time.
