Argalys — Vegan Vitamin D3 Spray

Argalys plant-based vitamin D3 is based on a genuinely vegan source of cholecalciferol, which is rare. Almost all D3 supplements on the market use cholecalciferol derived from lanolin (sheep wool fat, a co-product of shearing) – an effective but non-vegan source. Boreal lichen (Cladonia sp.) is the only known plant to naturally synthesize cholecalciferol (the D3 form). This source is chemically identical to lanolin-derived D3 in terms of bioavailability – thus, studies on D3 in general apply to this vegan formulation. The formula is remarkably simple: three ingredients. Organic sunflower oil is the fat-soluble carrier – vitamin D being fat-soluble, its dissolution in an oil improves absorption. DL-tocopherol Acetate is a synthetic vitamin E (racemic DL form, different from the natural D-alpha-tocopherol form). It plays a protective antioxidant role in the formula, stabilizing cholecalciferol against oxidation. Its vegan status is confirmed (chemical synthesis, no animal origin); the natural form has superior bioavailability, but this point is minor for a trace dose stabilizer. The dosage of 500 IU per spray, with a recommended daily intake of 1 to 2 sprays depending on age, is well-calibrated. At 2 sprays (1000 IU/day), we remain well below the maximum safe level set by EFSA at 4000 IU/day for adults. This dosage corresponds to current recommendations for maintaining vitamin D status in adults without severe deficiency. In cases of biologically confirmed deficiency, therapeutic doses under medical supervision may be necessary – this supplement is not suitable for correcting a severe deficiency without medical advice. The recommendation to take the spray with a meal is important for a fat-soluble vitamin: the presence of dietary fats enhances intestinal absorption. When applied directly sublingually, some is absorbed through the mucous membrane, which can be advantageous in practice.
